Road to Roubaix DVD
Earlier in the year I posted the trailer to the Road to Roubaix documentary, and this morning the following arrived in my inbox:
I know this is making the rounds at the Bicycle Film Festival, which is not coming to my area. For those of you who have had a chance to see Road to Roubaix, it would be great if you could let us know what you think by leaving a comment. I'll be posting a review as soon as I can.
Here is the link to the production company with pre-ordering information.

I haven't seen many good cycling films, but, this looks promising. Will check it out.
I saw the film at the Bike Fest in NYC.
I have to say it wasn't what I was expecting. It is not a film 'about Roubaix racing'. It is about the Roubaix race. That is the film explores the emotions created by the race amongst fans, riders, journalists and the local people. It shows us the cobbles and local landscape and more cobbles. If you know something about Roubaix then there is not much to discover here. There are great interviews with riders about the race but personally too many. The same 15 or so riders are asked questions about the race, cobbles, machinery, cobbles, emotions, dirt and cobbles. The majority of the film felt as though it consisted of these repetitive vox-pops.
The biggest reactions in the audience that night came when we did see very short clips or photographs of racing. Oh and of course Armstrong's admission that he wimped out of ever riding it. The last 15 minutes(?) follow O'Grady's winning move in 2007 - what a rider.
So yeah I am kind of torn and maybe they are still working on the movie. Maybe we just need to have a better expectation of what we are about to see. This is not a 'racing' documentary it is a 'race' documentary.
Steve, thanks for the review.
Everyone should check out Steve's artwork at velopaint.com. Good stuff. Steve also has a companion blog at velopaint.blogspot.com; I've provided a link to both sites in the left hand column.
I forgot to mention that Jack over at Save the Legs also attended the Bike Fest in NY, and his review of Roubaix can be found here: http://savethelegs.com/index.php/road-to-roubaix-1#more104
